Can You Read Codes Through Dic on 2008 Duramax
Posted Past: guidry on 09/23/13 07:20pm Later on about a half tank towing on the freeway all twenty-four hour period my bank check engine light came on and the manual shows it to exist emissions related. Diesel cap is ok, I'm guessing bad batch of diesel (truck finish). I added new diesel to top off the tank. Truck has only 13,000 miles. Could it be the bad diesel or peradventure air filter? I'm having it put on a scanner tomorrow just figured someone here might take experienced this before. Truck is running fine, even pulled 5th wheel up a vii% form similar nil.
Thank you

My vote is your truck is reporting "Contaminated DEF" that I encounter so much with the GM diesel trucks.

Not probable. If it was bad DEF the DIC would signal it with a "Poor DEF quality" message.

Not likely. If it was bad DEF the DIC would betoken it with a "Poor DEF quality" bulletin.
Yes... You're correct!

Posted By: guidry on 09/23/thirteen 09:03pm I'll know the code tomorrow when I accept it scanned. I was hoping someone here had already gone through something like. I'm guessing bad diesel or air filter. DEF was added about 400 miles prior so I know that isn't the problem. The only recent thing done was a trucker fuel stop and then virtually 100 miles later was the emissions engine lite. Runs fine though.
Thanks to all who have replied and then far. Any ideas?
Posted By: JTrac on 09/23/13 09:15pm This won't help but mine did the same thing last year pulling the grade from Boulder to Estes Park. By the fourth dimension I was able to get it to a dealer in Loveland information technology had already cleared itself. I don't remember what they told me but information technology hasn't happened again and we merely got dorsum from a 4500 mile trip last calendar month.

Posted By: othertonka on 09/23/13 09:52pm Correct now you and everyone else are merely guessing. get it scanned with a scanner and study back what code they institute and and so you lot might go some valid answers from someone. Without the code it's all just guesses.

Posted By: dancoppins on 09/24/13 04:51am Don't know about anyone else but nosotros have had 4 "glow plugs" brusk out since November 2013, each fourth dimension nosotros got the check engine light. The truck performed well without whatsoever other problems. A check of the code fault volition give yous the answer you are seeking. Without a code bank check it is just speculation on the function of everyone to determine your issues. Many automotive parts stores will check your codes for free...
Posted By: gmcsmoke on 09/24/thirteen 05:45am how do you get a bad air filter? And there's a thing chosen a fuel filter that filter's diesel fuel; IF yous got bad fuel the filter would catch it and a bulletin would appear saying "water in fuel". If it was dirt and the filter was clogged yous'd lose power the filter life would go to 0% and a message would come on saying change fuel filter.
It'due south all in the owners transmission, scratch that, the diesel supplement. perhaps reading that would help
Posted By: bobjogone on 09/24/13 11:40am Do you have Onstar - we have had good luck with calling them on the road and they tin identify the code and tell you lot what to do.
Posted By: 45Ricochet on 09/24/xiii 01:42pm From reading on the diesel place site the Nox sensors will cause that. They (dealer) usually start off past pulling the wires and cleaning upwards whatever muddied conections.

Posted By: SDM on 09/24/13 01:50pm Same matter happened to me in New Mexico. Everything worked fine except the lite. Got to a dealer and he put the scanner on it. He said that I had probably shut it off while it was in the regen mode. He erased the lawmaking and it has never come on over again.
Posted Past: Ric Flair on 09/24/xiii 01:54pm I have a 2013 GMC and never had this problem. Probably considering the quality command on GMC trucks is night and day improve than Chevy.

That is what I hear also. Everyone says they are built on the aforementioned line with merely some different corrective parts. What they don't tell yous is they accept two different work forces that do the assembly. They practice not let the Chevy people work on the GMC trucks although the GMC workers can work on the Chevy trucks considering they are superior employees. Hash out

Posted By: Norskeman on 09/30/13 08:31am When I went to a locking style fuel cap and I got the bank check engine calorie-free. I used Onstar and it was a faulty NOX sensor code. I called the service department they said to tighten the cap good and drive the truck. The light cleared later about 25 miles of driving - no issues since.
I installed an Edge Insight CTS in the truck. I tin check and clear codes with it. I cleared the stored code later on I installed the CTS. Information technology is a monitor only and then the engine warranty is not impacted. I monitor heave, turbo outlet temp (pyro 4), transmission temp, engine coolant temp and DFP soot loading (DPF regen starts at 43 grams of soot).
Installed the Edge instead of installing boost and pyro pillar mount gauges like I had on my 2005 D/A.
